Meet James Maybourn
Founder and Personal Trainer
James Maybourn is a personal trainer and the founder of James Fitness. During his time boxing for the Royal Navy, he helped others get into shape, developing his own skills and demonstrating his ability to help others achieve results. James went on to qualify as a personal trainer, and has worked with over a hundred different clients over the past seven years.
James is married with two sons, which gives him a unique insight into the challenges of a busy modern life. He and his wife, who is also a personal trainer, run three businesses alongside their family life, which has meant that James has personally experienced how challenging it can be to have to continually put personal needs to one side to focus on other areas.
Due to his own prior experience with binge-eating, as well his time supporting his wife during her efforts to get back into shape after having two children, James has developed a well-rounded, compassionate approach to fitness for women that allows him to inspire others to live their best lives.
James’ efforts with James Fitness have paid off with the results his clients have been able to achieve, along with his own distance running, and also in terms of accolades; the business won a Kent Excellence in Business Award for commitment to the community in 2017.
Hi I’m India and I work alongside my husband James. I used to be a medical receptionist and have always enjoyed exercise & keeping fit. I found my love of personal training through James and became a qualified PT in 2016.
Being a busy mum of two, I know how it feels to be at the bottom of the priority list when it comes to making time for myself. I also know how important it is to make time for yourself, I’m always a lot happier when in a routine & feeling good about myself.

My mission is to help busy women and men, mums and dads feel good about themselves, offering flexible fitness sessions in a small group environment.
Hi I’m Valerie one of the trainers at James Fitness. Being an older lady I’m aware of the importance of staying physically and mentally fit, the benefits of maintaining and improving your fitness as you get older are well documented and for good reason, staying fit and active keeps you younger and more able to cope with everyday stresses and strains. The group female fitness plans provided by James Fitness are designed to interlink numerous essential elements in order to achieve fitness beyond their '40s for those who have tried everything with no avail. By combining a focus on nutrition - without asking people to deny themselves their favourite foods - with a flexible, accessible expert training regime and plentiful community support, the plans provide all the necessary tools to build a sustainable, long-lasting lifestyle change.
In your first month with James Fitness, you will have the opportunity to attend two one-to-one coaching sessions. These sessions are designed to assess your current fitness, discuss your nutritional needs, as well as your previous experiences with weight loss and fitness training. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any previous injuries you may have sustained, as well as provide information on your existing schedule commitments. The result of this consultation process results in a personalised fitness and nutritional plan that works with your life, rather than becoming your life.
To ensure that every client receives the individual focus they require, sessions are delivered by one trainer per six members. Thanks to James’ understanding of the difficulties people face when seeking to improve their fitness, James Fitness provides taster opportunity for prospective clients. Two free classes are available each month for those who want to audit classes, and you can also sign-up for a commitment-free trial for the first month.
Do you feel that group training is not for you, you can't commit to fixed class times or you need the full attention of an expert personal trainer? 1-1 personal training sessions are also available at James Fitness. These sessions can be scheduled flexibly, give you privacy with your trainer and help you progress faster towards your fitness goals.
